Frequently Asked Questions
Should I choose Colorbond or Zincalume?
Don't underestimate the importance of your decision. There are advantages and disadvantages with both products. Zincalume is steel that is dipped in a zinc based product to give a protective coating. To create Colorbond sheeting, the same procedure is carried out. This is then taken one step further. The Zinc coils are placed in an oven and the colour is then baked and bonded onto the zincalume coating. Hence the name 'Colorbond'. Yes, all the old materials, debris and offcuts are stacked neatly in one or two piles during the job. This material is collected by our rubbish contractor or our own skip bin company usually on the day of completion. Unfortunately it can be very noisy especially during the removal of the old sheeting. No you do not need to move out but our roofing tradesmen will ensure they identify areas of danger especially at the location where the old sheeting is being removed from the roof. It is a must that you, the home owner or the owner's tenant be aware of the potential dangers and keep away from working areas. In the event we are removing asbestos fibro sheeting, we advise that you stay indoors and keep all windows closed during the removal procedure or go out during the time we are working during the day. It is very unlikely that this would happen, as absolute care is taken when removing your roof. Between fifty to seventy years depending on your geographical location. For example: Close proximity to the ocean where your roof could be exposed to salt air or to an industrial area where omissions from factories can adversely affect the new roof surface. Both of these situations have the potential to reduce the life span of your roof. There are even higher quality metal roofing materials that can be used to combat extreme condition but they are generally more expensive. Yes, we visit your premises at a mutually convenient time and comprehensively measure your roof and gutter. We actually measure every component of your roof, from on top of your roof. This gives us the advantage of accuracy over other roofing companies and eliminates any guess work and assumptions. Other roofing companies may merely measure from the ground or just get an idea from Google Earth on their computers. We are thus able to calculate a price for you that we know cannot be beaten. And of course this service is entirely free. Our representatives are then readily available to answer any questions once you have our quote; usually within 48 hours of measuring! Residential roofing Solutions uses the range of Colorbond® colors. Only local Australian owned manufacturers, roll formers and distributors such as Bluescope Lysaght, Fielders, Metroll, Apex Steel, Reece Plumbing, Rain Harvesting, Leaf Free We use only top quality Australian Bluescope and Colorbond roofing products. Yes, we are licensed with the Building Services Authority AND are members of the Master Builders Association AND the Housing Industry Association AND the Metal Roofing Association of Queensland. 1) Do they have a BSA Licence? We do and we display it in all our quotes. It's the first step of separating the "cowboys" from the professionals. Do a BSA Licence check on another roofing company you may be considering to obtain a quote from at BSA Online Licence Check (Check us out by typing in our BSA Licence Number: 723395) 2) Are they covered by Worker's Compensation or Accident Insurance? All of our tradesmen are covered by accident insurance. It could cost you thousands if anyone non-insured was injured working in your premises. 3) Do they have public liability cover? We have $10 000 000.00 public and products liability cover. 4) Do they employ trades people? All our staff have qualifications in their respective trades. 5) How long have they been in business? There are more and more 'fly by night' operators popping up everywhere trying to make a quick buck (here today - gone tomorrow). Our family has been involved in the roof plumbing business since 1927 and is currently in its fouth generation! 6) Do they give a written guarantee? Because we believe in the quality of the products we use and the work we do, we offer a 10 year installation and workmanship warranty! 7) Do they take every precaution to care for your property? For re-roofing and re-guttering we proudly and only use Australian owned and produced Bluescope and Colorbond steel roofing products. For tile roof re-bedding and re-pointing, we proudly use Shieldcoat and Flexipoint - the leaders in their field. 9) Do they have quality control check? On completion of each job, before you make the final payment, our job supervisor carrys out a thorough inspection, to ensure the quality of work adheres to our strict and industry standards!
Disadvantages of using Colorbond?
What is the difference between Colorbond & Zincalume?
If there is are clouds around or it looks like there is a possibility that it may rain, we may cease work altogether depending on the extent of the threat or we may decide to remove small sections at a time and then cover these areas as we go. We have emergency tarps on stand-by in the event that we fail to close a section in before it rains. There is always a small risk of water entry so we have extensive insurance policies in place to cover these risks. Our roofing tradesmen are very experienced in dealing with poor weather conditions
