IN 1996, rap metal band Rage Against the Machine worked its audiences into the biggest mosh pits this country has seen on the national Big Day Out tour.

The set peaked with its agit-anthem Killing in the Name. Like a Sex Pistols' God Save the Queen for a new audience, the chorus builds until the crowd sings: "F--- you, I won't do what you tell me."

Fans can expect similar mayhem when Rage plays Festival Hall on January 30 in its first shows outside the US since it re-formed this year. It is expected to headline the Big Day Out when the line-up is announced next week. -- PATRICK DONOVAN
