MEN are being invited to put their bodies over the pits as part of Men's Health Week.

The Pit Stop event, which gives men a a free health check-up, will be held on Friday from 4pm to 8pm at the Maitland City Bowls, Sports and Recreation Club.

Pit Stop co-ordinator and Hunter New England Health community health nurse Marian Seaton said "men could have their oil levels (blood pressure) tested, chassis measured (girth) and their duco checked (skin checks)".

"We are challenging men to attend this event to see if their body will pass the pits with flying colours or be needing follow-up maintenance work," she said.

Men are the sickest group in society after the Aboriginal community.
